NORSOK M-001 Revision 5 – Materials Selection

October 20, 2014 by Mariano Iannuzzi

The basis for materials selection

The NORSOK Committee has released a new revision, revision 5, of the NORSOK M-001 “Materials selection” standard.

Similarly to ISO 21457, NORSOK M-001 provides guidance and requirements for material selection and corrosion protection for hydrocarbon production and processing facilities as well as supporting systems for fixed offshore installations, including subsea production systems. The standard assumes a minimum of 20 years design life.

Although developed by the Norwegian petroleum industry, NORSOK standards are recognized internationally and used by oil and gas companies and original equipment manufacturers worldwide.
